School Nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. School nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.

School Health Services provides care that promotes students' academic success by:
*Managing chronic health care conditions
*Providing interventions that return students to class
*Lessening the number of students sent home
*Shortening illness-related absences
*Identifying health-related barriers and referring for appropriate care
*Providing health screenings such as vision and hearing
*Promoting a safe and healthy school environment
